About WiseCareNest — Our Story & Why We Built This for Family Caregivers

About WiseCareNest

Practical guidance for the hardest job you never trained for.

Caregiving changes you. One morning you wake up, and suddenly you’re not just a son or daughter anymore — you’re a nurse, a social worker, a lawyer, a housekeeper, and a financial planner, all rolled into one exhausted human being. And no one handed you a manual.

That’s why WiseCareNest exists.

Our Story

WiseCareNest was born out of the same confusion and overwhelm that millions of family caregivers feel every day. The people behind this site have walked the caregiving road — searching hospital discharge papers for some clue about what happens next, discovering far too late that there were benefits that could have helped, sitting on the floor of a bathroom at 2 a.m. trying to figure out how to safely bathe someone who can no longer stand.

When we tried to find answers online, we found two extremes: cold, jargon-filled government websites that seemed written for administrators, not families; or commercial sites pushing products and services without ever really understanding the fear and love tangled together in every caregiving decision.

So we decided to build what we needed most: one place that treats you like a human being, gives you clear and realistic steps, and never forgets that behind every question is a family trying to do the right thing.

What WiseCareNest Is

WiseCareNest is an independent, reader-supported resource for unpaid family caregivers. We are not a government agency, a law firm, or a healthcare provider. We are a small team that believes practical information should be delivered with kindness.

We publish thoroughly researched, plain-English guides that help you:

  • Figure out if you can get paid to care for a family member — and exactly how to apply.
  • Navigate the daily realities of bathing, feeding, dementia care, and home safety.
  • Make sense of the legal and financial documents that scare everyone at first.
  • Recognize caregiver burnout and take care of your own health without guilt.

Our content is regularly updated, and we are committed to building a growing library of state-specific guides because we know a Florida caregiver’s experience is different from a California caregiver’s.

What We Believe

  • You deserve to be paid if the system has a way to pay you. There is no shame in seeking compensation for work that would cost the state far more if done by strangers.
  • Clear, honest information is a form of care. We will never gloss over how hard something is or pretend a waitlist doesn’t exist.
  • You are not alone. Even if the work happens inside four walls that no one else sees, millions of people are doing it right alongside you. We hope this site feels like a quiet, steady friend who has been there and can point you toward the next right step.

Meet Our Founder

The name WiseCareNest comes from a simple belief: caregiving takes both a clear head and a soft place to land. “Wise” stands for practical, trustworthy, no-nonsense guidance. “Care” is the heart of everything we cover — from daily tasks to end-of-life planning. And “Nest” is the feeling we hope you get when you’re here: safe, understood, and finally not alone in this.

Hi, I’m [Lee], the founder of WiseCareNest. I started this site after my own family’s caregiving journey left me with a stack of papers and a thousand unanswered questions. I learned the hard way that knowing where to look and who to call is half the battle. My goal is to spare other families that same exhaustion by building the resource I desperately wished had existed when I was sitting in a hospital room, phone in hand, searching “can I get paid to take care of my mom.”

I am not an attorney, a social worker, or a medical professional. I am a former caregiver who became a student of the system and decided to share what I learned.

How to Use This Site

  • If you’re brand new to caregiving: Start with our New to Caregiving? path. It walks you through the first things you absolutely need to know.
  • If you need to know about getting paid: Our state-by-state paid caregiver guide is the most visited resource on this site.
  • If you’re looking for daily care skills: The Daily Care Guides section covers bathing, transfers, dementia, home safety, and more.
  • If you’re running on empty: Please visit Take Care of YOU. Burnout is real, and it’s not a failure.
